Jazz Guitar Discussion Groups

In 1995, the Jazz Guitar Discussion Group was established on a LISTSERV® based in Germany. JAZZGUITAR-L, initially was a way for Jazz Guitarists living in Europe to connect with one another. Growing out of the great European Jazz Guitar scene, it became very popular, with artists and fans alike. Our membership list expanded very quickly added many other mainly USA based professional guitarists and studio players.

I was the main founder and moderator of the group. With the demise and constant overloading of our server we decided to move the group to eGroups.

On Sept 2, 1999 we moved to eGroups and were called the jazzguitar list, and our membership then increased to add many more guitarists with an interest in Jazz.

In late 1999 eGroups merged with OneList and the combined company decided to use the eGroups name. In April, 2000, the OneList name disappeared from the merged entity, and all lists formerly housed on the OneList service officially became "eGroups". As part of that merger we had to change our name to the jazz_guitar group (note the underscore).

On June 28, 2000 Yahoo announced that it was going to acquire eGroups.  The merger became complete in early January 2001 and so now the group is on Yahoo Groups and known as the Yahoo! Jazz Guitar Group (YJGG) (jazz_guitar).

Operated as a free service the group allows anyone to post and read messages with other like minded groups of people.  The other moderators and I try to ensure that we have a friendly commercial free discussion environment. You can choose to not receive any email and only read and post on the web- the FAQ's tell you how when you join.

All are welcome to join. Members come from all over the world and include listeners, musicians, promoters, press, writers, DJ's, recording companies, video producers, fans and artists; and range from Beginners to Professional players.

All aspects of Jazz Guitar are discussed, Theory, Technique, Tunes, Concerts, Recordings, Festivals, and Events.
